They hit several spots at some of the bigger bases where Army and Air Force dependents frequented. They also bombed the airport and Rhien Main. They did hit one of my sister units close by which really ramped up security for us. I was a 24 Golf 10 working on the Hawk Missile system.

Familiar with the RAF. I wrote a research paper on them a number of years ago. Mind if I asked where you were stationed at? My old man was stationed at Baumholder from 80-89 (mil). Then he did another 10 years as a civilian contractor. I was a 90's kid growing up in a nearby German village, but I went to Baumholder High School. Probably the best time of my life .

Man I miss the grind now that I am out. I am considering going back in.

Fuck this shit... Send me back to Iraq or Afghanistan, maybe even both.

Damn, RR...why not use your Post-9/11 GI Bill to go back to school and learn how to turn professional wrenches or do air traffic control or something? I mean, good life does exist here outside "The Suck". I spent almost 7 years in the Middle East as an active duty Army NCO, and damn-near all of it was a complete waste of time. We accomplished nothing there. Entire region is a complete shithole. How 'bout staying here and building school or a hospital or a police station for an American community?

If you really want to get back over there then why not go as a contractor. Plenty of them out there and they make better money than you would. It will never be the same as it was. To many things change. Hell, I'm sure even you changed alot since you got out. If it's the camaraderie you miss then find that but don't re-join to gain back something you feel you lost because it won't be where you left it.

Just miss the uniform and being part of something that isn't driven by profits. Worst years of my life ended up being the best of mine... Looking back

It's important to realize there is not just one right way to have a military career, or to live a meaningful life outside the military. Be flexible, do what makes you happy. It's the only recipe for success I've ever known.
